Yes, Virustotal.com appears to be down and/or not resolve correctly in DNS at the moment.

Update: Looks like they're back.

It's a DNS issue. Those in urgent need may temporarily add to their hosts file:
74.53.201.162 www.virustotal.com

Interestingly vk2.virustotal.com currently does resolve to the same IP address.

but the chain-of-trust for dshield.org is broken via ns1.dshield.org
