Microsoft Azure offline

We are receiveing reports of an Azure outage.  This is affecting Microsoft DNS, XBOX and other services.    Thanks to Nick and Steve for reporting the outage.   More information is available here:

The Azure service itself was apparently not down, but its website and status page were mostly unreachable owing to Microsoft's DNS outage. That lasted about an hour I think.

Also DNS responses for Hotmail/Outlook, for A, MX, AAAA records, were coming back empty with no error code. Therefore some amount of emails to those services will have bounced as permanently undeliverable / unrouteable. This continued to happen intermittently for several more hours after other services came back online. Seems to be fixed as of Friday morning.
